This page has really
been superceded by Fred's page but I'd like to keep it here for
a while as a reminder of those pregnant months.
Baby?
Yes, it can now be announced, Mr
and Mrs Mog are expecting a new addition to the family !!
Being a baby of the new millenium
(due in October?), it only seemed right for he/she to have his
or her own web page before even being born. I hope to update
this as often as possible with really dull stuff that only a
parent might be interested in, like scans, how Mrs Mog is doing
etc.
Week 7
We have just discovered
our little surprise! Being first-timers, we know nothing . A
hastily bought Miriam Stoppard book reveals that I actually know
less than that and that there is a huge amount to learn. We do
know, however, that we are talking the size of a pea.
Names so far include;
Freya, Martha, Harry, Montgomery (!)...
(A pea)
Week 9
Actually nearly
week 10. First doctors appointment..Mrs Mog OK but a little grotty
and nauseous. I'm just writing lots of lists of things to do
before the baby's due!
Apparently we're
now at the size of a plum.. with ears and flippers (?!)
Latest names include;
Bertha, Hugo, Sky, Xante and Fireblade (a personal favourite)...
(a plum)
Week 11(and a
half)
The last week or
so has been fun. The first visit from the midwife, she suggests
that we are either further on or expecting twins !! (Big scary
chord). Tension, nervousness, looking at double pushchairs (That'll
NEVER fit down the alley) no sign of a scan before end of March...
Mrs Mog sees the Doc, hears the heartbeat.. phew. This morning
we go for a scan. Just the one baby, wriggling away, everything
seems fine!
Week 17
18cm long and 6
and a half ounces... that's one and a half bags of midget gems,
apparently our child can taste. Bump is starting to be visibule
now.. bubbly movements and we heard the heartbeat at the doctors..
Mrs says that her skin doesn't fit! we haven't got much further
with names.. lots of girls we like but only a couple of boys.
Week 19
Apparently we're
half way there (?!) - 23cm long now and ten ounces. We've been
cracking on with nest-building.. I've learned the art of carpet-laying..(Well,
I've managed to bodge a carpet down upstairs). We've got an exciting
update coming in two weeks - the proper scan. Current favourite
names include Tarquin, Nestor and Wilhelmina ;-)
Week 21 and a
bit
All kinds of wriggling
about going on now.. they say that babies can hear.. well it
can hear 'cheesecake' anyway! Nice picture.. we went for a scan
today - still don't know if it's a boy or a girl yet... Eric
or Erica?
Week 29..7 months
!
Now we're talking
- HUGE mother ship.. nipper kicking like a mule.. hehe. Actually,
obviously not very pleasant for Mrs Mog. Checkups confirm everything
is okay and on target. We've decorated the nursery (ah), so I
no longer have a toy room.. we've just about given up on names
although 'Cambridge', 'Maximillian' and 'Posh' have not been
crossed of the list.
For the record
the baby now is about 15" long and is getting hairy aswell
as blinking and weighing in at around 2.5 pounds.
Week 34
Mrs Mog has been
at home for two weeks now.. lots of sleeping and saying 'oof!'
- up until last weekend the baby was lying transverse which was
a bit awkward. It's turned now but it's obviously not too bright
about up and down, because it's bum-down ! It's a bit of 'wait
and see' now to see if it turns of it's own accord and what the
options are if it doesn't..oh, and apparently it's 'big' - that's
all the midwife would say.
Anyway - Mrs is
attending regular sessions at the hospital now and I've been
for my first antenatal Dads class. It was okay but I did feel
a little pale after the video !
Average size now
is around 17" (43cm) and about 4.5 lb (2 kg)
Week 36 +4 days
Things are happening
now.. Mrs is getting bigger, I've been drawing pictures of her
feet for her.. the baby is already at full term size.. we've
been for a presentation scan and it's definitely still breech
and a big 'un.. the sonographer estimated that it would be about
7 1/2 lbs if was born now ! We're going back next week for an
assessment and then it is crunch time. If it hasn't turned it
looks likely that we're going in for a section (we?) and that
would be soon.. very soon.. as in next week ! Current names include
Sidney and Olympia !
Week 38
It's been a fun
week so far. On Tuesday morning Mrs Mog came downstairs as I
was eating my cornflakes - "I don't think you're going to
work today.." Things have happened in a downstairs lady
way.. we went to hospital on the GPs advice and spent the best
part of the day in a labour suite delivery room with her strapped
up and prodded and poked. As she says, at least we spent our
anniversary together! Anyway, baby's turned the right way..it's
now head down and making moves. So we're back on normal stand-by
again. Just to add spice to it all, the country is dry of fuel
and I've only got a quarter of a tank.. I wonder if she'll fit
on the handlebars of my pushbike?
Week 39+1
Talk about picking
up the pace..We're getting well used to the inside of the maternity
unit at the City Hospital. yesterday Mrs was having a lot of
back pain and real 'twinges' every five minutes or so.. mucho
pain. I left work at lunch (very calm) and we were strapped up
to the monitors in Labour Suite before half two. Hmm, says the
doctor.. you might be in early labour.. we'll monitor you overnight
and see what happens. ('Monitor' means leave you completely unattended
for three hours then making an appearance prompted by slightly
irked husband)
Anyway - no result
so far, Mrs spent the night on the ward and is back home again
today, less twinging going on, so we're back on the bench for
now. One good point is that we're booked in for a section on
the 5th October so whatever happens, that will be the latest
date. (I know I keep saying 'we' - I'm a modern man, it's a sharing
thing :->)
